In the last year we’ve been all over the place to speak to other lawyers and experts about the DUI laws in BC and to advance our skills as Criminal Lawyers. Our stance on IRPs has made us controversial and popular. Whenever we get the chance, we explain to people what the Government is doing in BC and why it’s so very wrong. We’ve been to so many places that for us it feels like it’s Acumen Law on tour.
In the last 9 months we’ve been to Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and Alberta all for the purpose of speaking to others about what’s going on in BC and to make sure we’re the best DUI lawyers we can be.
We’ve learned a lot in our travels and brought a lot of people up to speed about the BC DUI situation. The one thing that seems to cause everyone to express utter shock is that in BC the police are using roadside breathalyzers to punish people. They don’t do this anywhere else in Canada. In Alberta they don’t do it because they seem to agree with our view of the law. In the United States they don’t punish people on the basis of roadside screeners because they all accept that the procedure and the devices are too wonky to be the basis of punishment.
In September Paul will be speaking about recent developments in IRP law at the BC Trial Lawyers annual Criminal Law program. In November he will speak at the Canadian Bar Association’s annual conference in San Diego about where the IRP legal scheme fits within criminal law and what lawyers should be doing for their clients.
The good thing is that if you need our help with a driving prohibition or criminal case, you don’t need to wait for us to come to your town. Just give us a call.
And if you really want to see Acumen Law on tour, keep following our blog for the dates of more events.
