CTV News Vancouver Interviewed Kyla Lee

CTV News Vancouver Interviewed Kyla Lee

If you choose to get behind the wheel after drinking the likelihood of getting caught is about to increase. Up until now, police needed reasonable grounds to conduct a breath test like the smell of alcohol. But starting today new federal impaired driving laws will allow law enforcement to demand a mandatory test even if the driver is showing no signs of impairment. Joining us this morning to discuss this we have Criminal Lawyer Kyla Lee and for MADD, Bob Rorison.

“The big change is that police do not have to have any reasonable suspicion that you have alcohol in your body to ask you to blow so as long as you have been lawfully stopped they can just make you blow into the breathalyzer and you are required to provide that sample.”
