To start, we apologize for the lack of posts in the last week. We’ve all been on the road (we defend cases in all parts of British Columbia) and then I fell and hurt myself badly Sunday evening and spent most of the the night in the hospital. In any event, we’re back. And I’m bruised with many stitches. And today is election day.
We encourage the readers of our blog to ensure that you vote. The IRP scheme is a BCLiberal invention. It’s a stupid mistake that continues to cost many innocent people great suffering, financial loss and embarrassment. It was conceived to divert attention from the botched introduction of the HST. The Government’s plan was to distract everyone from the HST fiasco by refocusing attention on a public enemy – drunk drivers. It had the added benefit of turning a liability, the cost of prosecuting drunk drivers, to a source of revenue.
To do this they exploited the highly unusual death of an innocent child. Their method was to identify all drinking drivers as the enemy. This is a standard propaganda method wherein the Government labeled a vague group as the enemy for the purpose of creating an “us vs. them” environment. They then claimed that it was worth giving up our civil liberties because it was the lesser of two evils. In other words, their argument is that in order to protect us from the enemy (drunk drivers – the greater of the two evils) you must give up your civil liberties (the loss of such being the lesser evil).
When a Government starts using tactics such as this they are morally bankrupt. They are no longer using their power in the interests of the people whom they govern. In this case their desire was to deflect attention from their mistakes in the hopes that it would help them retain power in the next election. And to do this they created laws that undermine our civil liberties.
For putting their own jobs ahead of the best interests of British Columbians, they deserve the boot. If you get out and vote today, election day, you can give them the boot. They’ve got it coming.
