By you reading this, this means that you have come across Acumen Law office – well – do not turn around now, because you are about to jump over your first hurdle. I do not know how severe your case is or what just happened, but there is no judgment here from me or the Acumen team.
I received a 3-day IRP in early January on a Saturday, while working out of town. “What just happened? These things don’t happen to me…” I thought as I watched the police officer drive away from my house after dropping me off. I sat down for a few hours feeling defeated, but I knew eventually I had to figure out my next step. I had no license and I had no vehicle. I felt as if my rights had been stripped from me. Now, my case is not as severe as others, but it doesn’t mean that it felt or was any less disheartening. My record would have this minor, but traumatizing flaw that would haunt me for years to come. What would become of the career I was trying to build? In my line of work, you HAVE to have a clean record – a few points here and there could be overlooked, but a driving suspension? Then how would I explain the driving suspension? That’s just it – I couldn’t – which would leave me without said job and without my livelihood.
Luckily (depending on how you look at it,) I had a close friend who went through a 90-day IRP the year before and as I recalled they had a very good lawyer. So, I called my friend and told them about my situation and instinctively he gave me Kyla’s number from Acumen Law. I didn’t think she would answer my phone call on a weekend, so I waited until first thing Monday morning to give her a call. She was on her way to court and said she would return my call as soon as she got back to the office, which is exactly what she did. I told her about my case and she asked why I didn’t call her sooner (turns out you can reach her on the weekends.) She took down all my information and her team was working on it right away. As I was in Northern B.C., I had no idea how this whole process would work since I could not be there personally in Vancouver to deal with it. Kyla had someone from her team run out to receive the documents about my case and the lawyers review them to see if I even had a case. After they did, Kyla phoned me back and as it turned out, I did have a case, a very good one. She was extremely confident in her plead, so ahead we went.
Kyla and her team did everything for me. I did not have to lift a finger. I paid a small initial fee for them to receive and review my documents and head down to the court (RoadSafetyBC) to deal with everything. Kyla assured me that she would not proceed with my case if there was not a case to be had. Thankfully, she figured that I did have a good argument, so then I paid another fee to get the ball rolling. There was no other charges – it was just now time to sit and wait for an answer.
3 weeks later, I received a notice of extension for 6 months to the date. Again. Time to hurry up and wait. Fast forward to June 23rd, where I received probably the best news that I will hear all year – that my IRP had been revoked off my record and all the fees (including impound and towing) would be reimbursed to me. I cannot thank
Kyla and her team more than enough. The honesty and professionalism I received from them still astounds me.
If you are here, then you had made the right choice. If you receive a ticket for absolutely anything, you are innocent until proven guilty, but receive an IRP and you are guilty until proven innocent. You only have 7 days from when you receive your IRP to act on it, so act right now and choose Acumen Law. I promise that you will not be disappointed. It is a very small price to pay for being able to keep your dignity intact.
Again, Kyla and team, thank you again from the bottom of my heart for everything that you guys do and to the person reading this, good luck.
Best regards,
RCS
