Federal justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould said there’s no one answer to how much cannabis would get you in trouble as a driver. She was asked at what point someone would actually be charged with impaired driving, something Wilson-Raybould said will depend on the situation.

“It depends on a case-by-case basis,” she said.

“Police officers have the opportunity to go through a series of tests. They can conduct standard field sobriety tests. We are training drug recognition experts to be able to determine whether or not they are of the view, or see probable grounds, that someone is impaired by drugs, and can build the probable grounds to take a blood sample to determine whether someone has been impaired by drugs.”

Kyla: “It doesn’t make sense and also it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. It is hard as a member of the public when you don’t know what you are supposed to be doing, how much you can smoke, or how much you can eat before driving and how long you have to wait. I think it is incumbent when government passes laws that relate to impaired driving that they be in the position to advise the public about how they can comply with them and to say that it is on a case-by-case basis just leaves everybody in a position where they don’t know what they are supposed to do and leads to confusion.”
