As marijuana is about to be legalized, the federal government today approved a drug testing device called “The Drager Drug Test 5000,” which law enforcement agencies will use to check whether the driver is driving after the drug.
A Vancouver lawyer, Kyla Lee, said that every time the police use the test, it costs 20 yuan. The equipment can’t be used in an environment below 4 degrees Celsius. It can only detect the presence of drugs in the human body, even if the police arrest the driver according to the test results. However, the results cannot be submitted to the court.

Lee pointed out that Ireland had encountered many problems in conducting similar tests. The authorities had expected that the police would test hundreds of thousands of drivers, but the tests were time-consuming and expensive. The cost of each device was 6,000 yuan. Only a small amount of testing was conducted in the first year.
