Canada’s new drunk driving laws are in effect and drivers will now face stricter penalties but it is the enhanced power of the officers that is raising questions.
Bill C-46 will give police across this country more power and if drivers refuse to blow, the consequences will be severe.
Under the old law, police were required to have reasonable suspicion a driver was impaired before they could demand a breath test. Now, when an officer says blow and you refuse, you will be hit with a $2000 minimum fine which has doubled plus a one-year driving ban and a criminal record.
