Global News BC heard for the first time from the 19-year-old woman who inadvertently crossed the Canada/US border while jogging.
Coming from Europe, the notion of prosecution for crossing a border is a foreign concept for her. Kristen Robinson has more.
Criminal lawyer Kyla Lee says situations like this will only get worse once marijuana is legalized and US border agents step up their scrutiny of Canadians.
She said: “We are going to see other cases, particularly involving racialized individuals and minorities who are detained for lengthy periods of time and subjected to questioning before being released back to Canada.”
