Pot will soon be legal, but one lawyer says the roadside saliva test set to determine impairment is not 100% accurate.
“It’s a saliva testing device so police officers will use a swab to gather a sample of the driver’s saliva and then measure that to determine the concentration of various drugs including cannabis in their body. The concerns I have with it primarily relate to the operating temperature of the device. The device itself can only be operated between 4 degrees and 40 degree celsius. So in Canada’s Winter, this device is not going to be something feasible that the police can use unless they want high rates of false positive results.”
