The mandatory alcohol screening that takes effect Dec. 18 allows police to demand a breath sample from any driver they lawfully stop — not just if they suspect a driver has been drinking. “The biggest change that we are going to see is we are going to have random breath testing so any police officer can stop any driver at random and demand that they provide a sample into the roadside breathalyzer.”
“If you fail then you are going to either be issued an immediate roadside provision for 90 days of the road, your car is taken for 30 days, or you are arrested and taken back to the police station for further testing.”
