“The Motor Vehicle Acts does set out restrictions on when you are allowed to cross the street in the sense that if you’re walking on the street you have to be walking as far to the right as practicable. If there’s a sidewalk you have to be walking on the side walk and that effectively prohibits people from crossing in the middle of the street. There are also provisions under the MVA that govern pedestrians when they’re crossing the street that say you can only cross in a marked crosswalk if a crosswalk is present, or at an intersection when it’s safe to do so… Municipalities also create bylaws that specifically prohibit jaywalking…”

“We can’t just expect drivers to be the only people to have a responsibility to everyone on the road.”
