The Transit Police teamed up with the RCMP in Richmond to do sobriety checks around skytrain stations and issued 3 Impaired charges, they caught 9 drivers without a licence, and 21 drivers with no insurance.
“…It may be time for ICBC to add points associated with driving without insurance… but right now there’s not much of an incentive other than financial, to go and get your insurance.”
“(Distracted Driving Tickets) are very difficult to challenge but a lot of people are fighting them, and I would say a lot more now that we’ve seen the impacts of inflation. Because it is such a stiff penalty with the 4 points and the $368 fine, people are more inclined to dispute those tickets because money is tight and the potential that you would lose your licence, have to pay driver penalty point risk premiums and the high fine encourages more people to dispute the distracted driving tickets as opposed to the cheaper tickets that exist.”
