Kyla Lee on The Shift with Drex

We’re only about 5 weeks away from marijuana legalization in Canada, and when it is legal, police will begin testing for impaired drivers. One roadside machine available to them is the Drager DrugTest 5000. You’ll hear a man test the machine out on the radio to see if it picks up the cannabis in his system.

“Unfortunately, the Drager DrugTest 5000 does not test any symptoms. All it does is measure a level of THC or cocaine in the body so it does not test for whether or not the person is impaired by cannabis. In Canada, we are just setting an arbitrary legal limit for THC in the blood even though we do not know yet in the scientific community what that level is in relation to impairment.”
