Roger Townsend was in the midst of a significant family law dispute. He applied for legal aid and his application was denied. It was determined that he didn’t meet the eligibility requirements for legal aid.

Unfortunately, he was also in a position where he was unable to afford counsel to deal with his application. He brought an application to court arguing that his right to counsel had been violated on the basis of the fact that he was refused legal funding. That application was denied.

He sought leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada and that application was dismissed.
