The Trudeau government is set to approve a roadside saliva test that will allow police to test drivers to see if they’ve consumed cannabis. The device that’s being looked at has already been approved by the UK and Germany, and it can also test for the presence of cocaine. The reliability of the device has been questioned in some quarters though – and the National Post reports there are concerns about how well the devices will perform in dead of winter in Canada’s coldest regions.

Paul: “I guess I’m not surprised but it’s not one of the ones that they tested. We had this program where all these different police detachments tested different devices for awhile. It was sort of voluntary at the roadside, you could provide a sample and this isn’t one of the ones that they tested.”
