“Now the RCMP have announced they are rolling this out across the province, where if you are pulled over for any reason, they’re just going to start right away, get your driver’s license and then make a mandatory approved screening device test and make you blow right there.”
“This one doesn’t require the police officer to form a suspicion that a driver has alcohol in their body. We have not seen not broad use of it in British Columbia…”
“Saskatchewan is doing it for a reason…they have a big attitude problem with drinking and driving.”
“In Canada, including in Saskatchewan, they can pull you over to check your license status, they can pull you over to check for sobriety without any other grounds, just I’m pulling you over. So as long as the police officer can articulate the reason for the stop, that’s all they need.”
“It’s a really low standard.”
“Currently [it’s] legal, we’ll see whether or not it passes the constitutional challenge when it gets to the Supreme Court of Canada and it eventually will.”
“As far as the fines are concerned, I mean our provincial is going to have to revisit fines, everything is 25% at least more expensive than it was a few years ago.”
Any time that you raise fines, everybody is always, certain groups, vocal groups are going to be out there saying “This is just a money grab!”
