Illegal street racing is taking over the streets of Nanaimo. Is there enough police enforcement to tackle this issue?
RCMP in Nanaimo partnered with a police helicopter service to target dangerous drivers, following multiple complaints from residents about drag racing and other risky behaviour in some parts of the city in recent months.
“I think it’s more of a threat than reality. Because the cost of putting a helicopter in the air and having them just monitor, looking for an offence being committed usually is not really financially viable. The police talk about it all the time… but you can’t find someone in the past 30 years who’s been ticketed from that…”
