Working hard and doing a good job

Working hard and doing a good job

The fax machines at our offices in Vancouver and Richmond were working overtime Tuesday as we started receiving a great number of review decisions from the OSMV lifting the interlock requirement for our clients. We’ve been working hard to call everyone when the review decisions come in. These are long days for us.

It’s a great pleasure to telephone our clients when the decision comes. Many people have been without a driver’s license for what seems like an eternity. Most people tell us that having the interlock requirement removed is the most liberating feeling they’ve ever experienced. The dark clouds lift and they can get on with their life after many lost months or years.

We’ve been working long hours so far this week to get in the applications for reconsideration of a referral to remedial programs for our clients and to telephone everyone when the Interlock is lifted. At the same time we are well into moving ahead with the class-action to try and recover damages.

We’ll have a lot more to say about what’s going on behind the scenes in the coming days and weeks. For now we ask for some patience as we plod along.

Fueling our efforts are some of the wonderful thank-you messages we’ve received from clients around British Columbia. It’s a nice feeling to be appreciated for our work.

We received this email from a client who had his interlock requirement lifted on Tuesday afternoon:

I don’t know where to begin. A huge thank you is certainly first and foremost!
I wish I would have known about your firm right from the start of my ordeal. You are amazing!!! You have succeeded in making the OSMV understand what is legal and forced their hand by helping them understanding the law. I am so thankful for everything you have done for me since then, including having my interlock removed.
I cannot thank you enough!

Certainly there are people who oppose our work and who don’t understand why we are defence lawyers. There are people who would like to shut us down because we are good at what we do and we are hard working. So we appreciate the fact that our clients understand why we are passionate about what we do and the necessity of having lawyers who are willing to speak out against bad law.

We have been relentless in our defence of clients with IRPs. Our goal is to the be the best lawyers we can be — the lawyers you want us to be. And our clients apparently appreciate our efforts.

We received the following email on Monday which tells us that we are approaching our goal. Although we have no plans to slow down, we take comfort that our unwavering efforts are recognized by our clients.

In selecting counsel to appeal my 90 day IRP I interviewed 5-6 various lawyers. I chose Kyla Lee based on internet searches surrounding her work and expertise as well as her calming demeanor in listening to my case. She made no false promises but encouraged me to proceed with my appeal after reviewing my specifics. Kyla asked all the right questions to elicit what turned out to be the core of our defense. Kyla was also able to combine specific issues pertaining to my case with generic issues challenging certain aspects of the IRP and the efficacy of the ASDs being utilized. She recommended switching our presentation from written to oral which I believe proved to be instrumental in helping my cause. Kyla is clearly an expert in this arena and is working within a firm that is at the forefront of defending those affected by this legislation and in challenging many aspects of the legislation and regulations themselves. In as unqualified manner as I can possibly muster, I urge anyone who has been charged under this legislation in two fundamental ways. (1) DO get a lawyer. This is a legal space that needs those intimately knowledgeable with a rapidly moving target in order to have a chance to succeed. (2) DO retain Kyla Lee and Acumen to assist you in the process. Acumen as a firm is filled with expertise in this regard. Kyla herself not only demonstrated expertise and knowledge but also a willingness to work above and beyond the call of duty to see me through my case. I could not be more pleased and appreciative of her diligence and more importantly, her results.
