A number of people are contacting us about their temporary drivers licenses that were issued because their IRP is either still in dispute, or a court order has stayed the prohibition. The temporary driver’s licenses expire at the end of this month.
Knowing the work that must be done to further extend the licenses, we are taking steps to do this for our clients if it becomes necessary. However, you should know that we don’t think that this will be necessary because we expect a decision any day.
Judgments of the court may be issued a number of ways, including by simply publishing them on the court’s judgment database. We expect a decision from the court either today or early next week on what the remedy should be given the finding that the previous IRP scheme violated the Charter of Rights.
This is cutting things closer than we would like. We understand that many people drive for a living and that the decision may have a huge impact on them. We also understand the stress that many people are going through while waiting for a decision.
We are doing everything we can to ensure that we can quickly respond to the decision of the court. Although we are taking steps to protect our clients’ drivers licenses, we still expect a decision which may force us to change our direction very quickly to best serve our clients.
When the decision comes, we will try to provide an update as soon as possible.
