“What is this bill and what is changing?”
“Essentially, all the bill does is change who bears the burden of proving that somebody should or should not get bail. So for a lot of instances, with some exceptions, if you are seeking to have bail, the Crown has to prove why you should be detained. This bill creates a reverse onus, meaning you have to prove why you should be released in very limited circumstances.”
