If you received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition, you’re all too familiar with how unfair the system is. From beginning to end, the Government stacks the process against you. Although we succeed for a significant number of clients, thousands of innocent British Columbians have ended up with 90-day IRPs (plus fines, towing, storage, interlock, RDP, etc.).
It should surprise no one, therefore, that the Justice minister wants to bring unfairness to all aspects of driving regulation. What surprises us is that our premier was so inept as to appoint someone who advocates for injustice as the Justice minister. Of course, all of this you already know if you received a 90-day IRP. But you may ask where things are going in BC?
From the Times Colonist:
Province wants crackdown on unsafe drivers
Justice minister urges fines, suspensions and vehicle seizures
B.C.’s justice minister wants to crack down on dangerous drivers by hitting them with the same stiff fines, vehicle seizures and licence suspensions that the government already uses against drunk drivers.
Shirley Bond said she’s “extraordinarily frustrated” with drivers who have a history of chronic speeding, dangerous driving and other motor vehicle offences.
Bond said she has asked B.C.’s superintendent of motor vehicles, Steve Martin, to explore how the impaired roadside prohibitions could be used against drivers who continue to rack up tickets for unsafe driving and speeding.
In the near future, a traffic ticket will lead to an automatic driving prohibition without review before a real court and with thousands of dollars of expense. The police will hold all the power.
The thing about justice is that it costs money and it doesn’t make the Government a whole lot of money. Injustice is cheap and it can be a revenue source for the Government.
These are dark days. The police have become advocates for something approaching a police state, the Justice minister seems to lack even a simple understanding of the role of courts and apparently takes direction from the police. And the Government has identified drivers as a source of tax revenue which is extracted by the use of ever increasing vilification and disproportionate punishment.
This is where things are going in BC. George Orwell was not far off the mark.
The courts have largely facilitated this. Courts move too slowly to protect you from the Government, and moreover, there is no point in trying to rely on the courts to protect you from the Government.
If the BC Liberals are re-elected, rent a u-haul because there is no option but to find somewhere else to live where you and your family can be safe from the Government.
