ICBC is launching a new pilot project aimed at inexperienced drivers. What they do is they are looking for 7000 new drivers to volunteer to have a gizmo installed in their car that would measure things like their speed, breaking patterns, and levels of distracted driving. It is a pilot project to see how it works. Maybe, it impacts your insurance rate down the road. What do you think of this idea?
“I think it is a fantastic idea. I think it is great to be experimenting with new ways that we can help younger drivers become better drivers throughout the course of their driving lifetime. And if they ultimately decide after the pilot project to adopt this, what we are going to be creating is a community of drivers who have developed good habits when it comes to driving from the start.”

All right speaking of distracted driving tell me about driver risk premiums if you get a cell phone convention for the second time. So this is the second or repeat offence for distracted driving. How does that impact your insurance?
“Well, right now you will have to pay something like called the driver risk premium. It just went up to 40% as of the beginning of November. They are in for another hike early next year and according to the figures announced by the government, it could end up being a total cost of $2000 for a second cell phone conviction.”
